Vislumbre – Documentary Creation Residency in Odemira

Doc’s Kingdom and Cinema Fulgor are pleased to announce the opening of the first open call for Vislumbre – Documentary Creation Residency in Odemira. The programme will support a filmmaker or artist resident in Portugal in the making of a short film in the region, with artistic and logistical guidance from the organising bodies.

The programme features a residency in Odemira which will be taking place in May 2026. Accommodation will be provided in the town centre, and the resident will have the opportunity to connect with individuals who preserve and share the stories, lived experiences and knowledge of Odemira’s places and communities. At the end of May, the resident artist shall give a presentation of the artistic research and creative process in progress, open to the public. After the residency in Odemira, the film’s editing and post-production will be undertaken independently, with the aim of presenting the completed work at Doc’s Kingdom 2026 in November.

Artists and filmmakers of any nationality who are resident in Portugal are warmly invited to apply, regardless of their age or the stage of their career, provided they have completed at least one film. Applications are welcome in both Portuguese and English.

The selected participant will receive a total grant of €8,000 (of which €2,000 is allocated as artist’s fees and €6,000 is designated for production costs). The programme covers accommodation expenses in Odemira, as well as return travel between the participant’s place of residence and Odemira. Wherever possible, the organisers will offer artistic and logistical support throughout the production and post-production process, drawing on their network of contacts and partnerships.

Applications may be submitted until midnight on 22 March 2026 by completing this form.

A single PDF document (up to 100MB) must be attached to the form, including:

— Biography and portfolio (including links to view previous films)

— Project description (up to one page)

— Appendices and images (maximum of two pages, optional)

Before submitting an application, it is essential to read the regulations carefully: available here (in Portuguese only).

This initiative is supported by the programme Odemira Criativa.
