We’re now accepting applications for the Dear Doc Fellowships 2024, for students and emerging talents from Portugal.

The Dear Doc programme aims to promote access to and deepen the pedagogical and collective dimension of Doc’s Kingdom – International Documentary Film Seminar. 4 Dear Doc Fellowships will be offered to students and emerging professionals active in the field of cinema (with experience in criticism, programming, research, creation, production, distribution, mediation, pedagogical or collaborative practices) from or based in Portugal.

>> Applications accepted until 10 October 2024 (before midnight, GMT+1).

Please send a short bio and motivation letter through this link.

REGULATIONS

1. The Dear Doc Fellowships programme is aimed at students and emerging professionals active in the field of cinema, from or based in Portugal. Four individual scholarships will be offered. Anyone who has already benefited from a Dear Doc scholarship in the past is not eligible to apply again.

2. In 2024, the Dear Doc programme will focus on thinking and transmission around the Doc’s Kingdom Archive and the artistic programming of this edition, particularly focusing on sound and listening practices in cinema.

3. The grants cover the participation in Doc’s Kingdom 2024 in Odemira, including access to all the sessions, debates and other activities between 19 and 23 December 2024. The grant includes accommodation in a shared room (4 people), food and transportation on site, but does not cover transport between Odemira and the place of residence. The Dear Doc programme includes participation in exclusive talks and activities between 18 and 19 November.

4. Acceptance of the Dear Doc scholarship implies participation in the full programme of activities in Odemira, as well as the submission of a short individual report by 30 November 2024.

5. The application period runs until 10 October (until midnight). The selection process is the responsibility of the Doc’s Kingdom team, and the results will be announced publicly by 25 October.

6. Applying to the Dear Doc program does not guarantee the reservation of a place as a participant in the Doc’s Kingdom seminar.

7. Dear Doc scholarships will only be definitively validated after confirmation of acceptance and fulfilment of the conditions described.

8. Doc’s Kingdom is not responsible for any problems arising during the stay in Odemira that are outside the scope of the programme or the accommodation guaranteed by the Seminar.

9. Doc’s Kingdom is an open and inclusive space for an international community of participants – including the filmmakers, guests, participants, fellows, staff and partners. In this space, debate is natural and welcome, as long as it is always guided by mutual respect and civility. Anyone who witnesses an anomalous situation should alert a member of the team, or write to docskingdom@docskingdom.org or dir.apordoc@apordoc.org.
