Deuses de Pedra, by Ivan Castiñeiras Gallego
(2025 | Portugal, Spain | M/12 | 1h25 )
Friday, 18 September, 9.30 pm — Cineteatro Camacho Costa, Odemira
Filmed over a period of fifteen years in a village in Trás-os-Montes on the border with Galicia, in Deuses de Pedra children’s stories intertwine with local folk stories and shape the life of Mariana, a four-year-old girl who grows up with her family. Between collective memory and mythology, intimate narratives of village life are woven together in this film until, at the age of 17, Mariana must decide whether to leave her mother and the land where she grew up.
Ivan Castiñeiras Gallego’s work inhabits borderlands, where characters on the fringes of the law blur imaginary lines: be it those dividing countries, those separating fiction from documentary, or those separating imagination from lived experience.
The screening will be attended by the director and presented by Catarina Boieiro and Stefanie Baumann, co-directors of Doc’s Kingdom.
