Screening of the film Ice, by Robert Kramer
1970 | 2h13 | USA | English, with Portuguese subtitles
Friday, October 17, 2025, 6:00 PM — Cineteatro Camacho Costa, Odemira
Ice weaves the portrait of an underground revolutionary group seeking to overthrow a fictional fascist regime in the United States. The narrative, interspersed with reflections on the philosophy of radical action, addresses the challenges of collective organisation. As noted in the Cinemateca Bulletin (2024), it is “one of the sharpest insights ever offered into the inner workings of a political organisation. Perhaps rarely has fiction come so close to reality.”
A landmark film from the early period of American filmmaker Robert Kramer’s body of work, Ice also inspired the creation of Doc’s Kingdom. This screening resonates with the upcoming edition of the International Documentary Film Seminar, to be held in Odemira from November 14 to 19, featuring a program dedicated to collective filmmaking practices and the tensions between political action and collective organisation.
With an introduction by José Manuel Costa, co-founder of Doc’s Kingdom and former director of Cinemateca Portuguesa.
In partnership with the Municipality of Odemira, the Doc’s Kingdom Sessions in Odemira will take place throughout 2025 in anticipation of the Seminar, which this year celebrates 25 years since its first edition.
