Trinh T. Minh-ha in Lisbon after Doc’s Kingdom 2024

On the 24th and 25th of November, Trinh T. Minh-ha – Vietnamese director, writer and theorist based in the USA – will be in Lisbon to present her work, after her participation in Doc’s Kingdom – International Seminar on Documentary Film.

Screening of the film What About China? (2022, 135′), with the presence of the director.

Using material filmed in southern and eastern China in the early 1990s, the film weaves a unique perspective on the Chinese countryside, accompanied by different voices sharing personal experiences, poems and songs. Free entrance.

Masterclass by Trinh T. Minh-ha: ‘The Everyday: Form and Forces’, followed by a talk with Catarina Alves Costa.

Co-organisation: Centro em Rede de Investigação em Antropologia (CRIA). In partnership with Grupo de Investigação em Arte Multimédia do Centro de Investigação e Estudos em Belas-Artes.

Screening of the film Naked Spaces: Living is Round (1985, 135′, in a new digital copy in process of restoration), with a presentation by the director. A film about the poetics of dwelling and the relationship between houses and cosmos in West Africa, Naked Spaces: Living is Round provokes an awareness of sound, music and ambient noise, leading the audience to get to know a specific culture through the senses.
