In the garden of Casa da Cerca, Almada
This year marks 25 years since the first edition of Doc’s Kingdom, held in Serpa in 2000. To mark the occasion, some of those involved in founding the Seminar or participating in its early editions will come together again. The gathering offers an opportunity to look back on the origins of Doc’s Kingdom and Apordoc: what motivations and circumstances led to their creation? What impact have they had, and what obstacles have they encountered? What complexities arise when attempting to organise events that are horizontal, critical, and politically engaged? How has the documentary field in Portugal changed over the past 25 years, and what still remains unresolved?
The history of Doc’s Kingdom is long and dynamic. In addition to revisiting its beginnings through shared memories and personal accounts, the gathering invites participants and audiences to explore together the current conditions of documentary production and exhibition in the 21st century — including the ongoing pressures and uncertainties that shape it today.
